![]() With her throat cut and a magic-less Vera unable to help, it looks as if her time was up. The last five minutes of the season saw Alyssa savagely mauled by Midnight as she left Vera. With Vera guiding Alyssa through the process, it’s seemingly successful but a lot happens in those final five minutes of the show – so here’s what we want to know if there’s a third season. With the once-close pair reduced to enemies by the end of the season, Vera and Alyssa are forced to work together in the final episode in order to seal the 'eruption', which is essentially a hole in the fabric of the universe. Heartbroken by the death of Salvador, Alyssa strips Vera of her magical powers and demands that she provide her with what she wouldn’t give Salvador: the Foris Factorum, the incantation that will allow her to give away magical powers to the masses. Scale that up by the billions of people across the planet and factor in the reaction it generates from the werewolves and there would be carnage, or a 'magical apocalypse,' as Hamish neatly puts it.įirmly under Salvador's influence, Alyssa leaves the Order and joins Praxis and takes over as leader when Salvador is killed by Vera (albeit, after Salvador tried to kill Vera first). Not just members of a society or an elite chosen few: rather, every single person on the planet.Īs already demonstrated by Ellie (since when are serial killers called Ellie?), supernatural powers can be incredibly dangerous when they're in the wrong hands. Led by Salvador Grant – an incredibly powerful magician who is also a werewolf – Praxis holds the belief that ultimately, everyone should be able to use magic. While the first season focused solely on the Hermetic Order of the Blue Rose, season two introduces other magical societies, each operating within its own set of rules.Īrguably the most dangerous of the rival groups is Praxis. That, combined with Vera's revelation that magic makes werewolves angry ("You're only telling us this now?" asks an incredulous Gabrielle), sets the scene for a series that explosively explores who should – or should not – have access to magic. And her own home, for that matter: she's shown testing her spells on a series of unfortunate rats in her kitchen, subtly highlighting the dangerous ease with which magic can be brought into a domestic setting. Committing truly heinous acts – turning students into statues, embedding them in walls and setting them on fire from the inside out – it quickly becomes apparent that Ellie, the woman behind the crimes, has taken magic into her own hands. However there's not much time to dwell on that, as a magical serial killer is doing the rounds. But two episodes in, Alyssa has restored their memories and they're hungry for revenge. Hamish, Lilith and Randall are all in a similar boat, living seemingly normal lives and blissfully ignorant that acolytes from the Hermetic Order of the Blue Rose are controlling them with puffs of the memory-wiping powder in order to stifle their werewolf urges.
